I confess this blog title was meant to grab your attention!  But wouldn’t you agree that it’s a timely topic? The air is charged, and there is an atmosphere of frenzy as we round the corner to the mid-term elections.  What will the outcome be?  How will it affect current laws? How will it change markets and real estate trends?

Regrettably, this article will not answer those all-consuming questions, but what I do have is some advice.  Just like you, I too have been bombarded with political emails, advertisements and tons of mail that have not clarified much for me.  So, I decided to take the approach that I know well; the real estate approach.   

Over the years, I have written several articles giving customers tips on how to make the right real estate decision when buying or selling a home.  I utilized a systematic process and thought why not integrate that to help make an informed political decision.  So here are a few tips to get you started.

  • Enlist the services of an expert!  Individuals typically have expert knowledge in one or two specific areas.  For those subject matters we are not as well-informed in, utilizing an expert such as a Realtor® is wise.  A Realtor® can help the buying or selling process to be much simpler.  Do you know someone who has done their homework?  They have facts and can explain the essence of an amendment or a candidate’s viewpoint.  Garner knowledge from them to help you make an informed decision.
  • Pictures only give a partial story!  While online pictures, and detailed descriptions can certainly attract you to a home, nothing beats viewing it yourself.  In the same way, TV ads, and advertisements only highlight a topic or candidate.  Further investigation should be made to gain more insight.  Email or call the candidates’ office to ask questions, visit their web pages to obtain their perspective or if available attend town hall meetings. 
  • Accentuate the positives, minimize the imperfections!  This is one of our best advice for sellers.  Maybe your kitchen cabinets are a little worn and dated, but your backyard is a tranquil oasis.  This would be the home’s best feature to emphasize to attract the right buyer.  In the same way with politics, if we focus on the negative ads and the mud-slinging, we may become discouraged and think what’s the use.  Focus on the positives!  We are blessed to live in a country that we can get in our cars, drive to our voting stations and peacefully cast our vote.  Many people around the world have never experienced this opportunity and may never will. 

 

  • Location, location, location!  Realtors® know this characteristic is at the top of buyers’ lists and helps the sale of a home move quicker.  Fortunately for us, the Treasure Coast is in a prime location attracting customers from all over the world.  Prime location on November 6th will be your voting booth.  Discussions, tweets, likes or blogs will not matter.  Your voice is heard the loudest in the voting booth!
